Meet Your Coach

Hey, I'm Ashley I was certified as a Life Coach in Lubbock, TX in 2007 while attending Texas Tech University and wrestling with the expansion of becoming a version of self that was unknown and unscripted. Colonial ideas of success made their way into this venture and pushed me toward the more rigid lane of psychology. Pushing back a bit I followed a path toward systemic understanding of healing rather than the individualized approach that I found typical. I moved through formal education and into application and began to experience and explore the limitations of what I was taught. Through my own anti-oppression work I found a more expansive path to feeling well. Through my struggle with chronic illness, the radicalization of becoming a mother in America, and expanding awareness of racial and ecological crisis that I was always afforded the privilege of choosing disconnection with I had to look outside of what I learned heals us. I still use the framework of western psychology and believe in therapy as a whole AND I do not think therapy should be threatened by the additional resources and freedoms offered by Life Coaching. In 2019 I became a Certified Integrative Mental Health Provider- meaning I am trained to discuss movement, food and environment as a pathway to healing. My excitement deflated when I realized that in my current context the people finding me wanted a traditional talk therapy path to healing. They did not want expansion. I don't blame them, a whole body healing is not what they had in mind when they called a therapist. But I hope it is when you come to me as your life coach. I am also acutely aware of the ways therapy in its state regulation is an extension of the police and my positioning in conservative state legislation. As a liberation oriented mental health advocate, the mental disconnect of a single path as my only option as a healer got to me. So I expanded and adapted to lean into life coaching as well. Here we are trying new things and taking big leaps together. I appreciate you being here and making the world more connected and liberated as a byproduct. We are doing badass things already, check us out.

Why Life Coaching?

In this context Ashley is a collaborator and co-conspirator. Using coaching allows you and Ashley to explore new ways of healing such as movement, rituals and more directive guidance. This is NOT therapy.  Here Ashley will offer advice, stories, music, meditations and poems to support change. This work is rooted in bigger understanding of wellness, beyond research, and science and into unseen wisdom and alternative approaches. We will work toward a goal using a holistic approach rather than exploring and shifting the mind and behaviors.  In this setting Ashley will practicing alongside you in session.  This space allows us to step away from western psychology and into expansive, embodied, experiential, intuitive and ancestral wisdom beyond the intellectual framework of psychology. You can expect to use and engage with a meditation, mystical tools, nature, and movement together in session. This setting allows for practice and application in our time together. All meetings will be virtual but  can include a shared experience that takes you into nature and daily life.

Coaching for people invested in making positive change for the world.

Do you struggle to sleep at night or slow down because of the urgency of ongoing ecological and humanitarian crisis? Are you feeling powerless because of the ways the government makes laws that hurt you and the people you love? Are you feeling disconnected from people who are not stressed about the world? Are you spinning your wheels figuring out how to create meaningful change? Are you worried seeing ongoing restrictions to accessing freedoms you assumed were here to stay? Are you numbing out the empathy that connects you to others because it feels like too much to hold? Are you doom scrolling hoping to find action plans and a direction for hope? Does it feel like you must do the hard and relentless work of changing the world? Are you feeling the weight of our collective liberation or lack there of?

In my personal and professional work I noticed there is a specific kind of dysregulation that happens as people engage with concerns that are rooted in powerful systems that resist change. There is a isolating boldness and imagination in threatening what is accepted as normal. There is a never ending sense of need when the problems and their interconnections become clear.... and I am supposed to stay hydrated, fed and earn a living every single day...how?  I work with people to find sustainable ways to engage in meaningful work through ALIGNMENT, REST & PLAY
